This tutorial is inspired by the backgrounds that Axialis uses in most of it's sample screen savers. It's actually a really neat idea (I wish I'd had it!) to make a simple yet cool background. It really does give your screen savers more depth then you'd have with just a simple gradient.
You got all your supplies? Good let's get started!
Start by creating a 640x480 canvas

Select the flood fill tool
Change the foreground properties to Gradient (don't worry about background unless you are making your own gradient)
Click on the foreground properties to change them

Select Duotone Dark Blue as your gradient. Settings should be Linear,Angle=0 Repeats=0, invert not checked. If you decide to use your own gradient just make sure the lightest color is on the bottom.
Flood fill your image

Now the fun part! Click on Effects--Image effects--Offset

Use the following settings

Or change it up and use your own number! Just make sure you keep the edge mode at wrap.
Here's my finished image. I know it's 640x480 and most resolutions are much higher but this works well stretched. I use a resolution of 1024x768 and it looks good trust me and also this helps in keeping down on file size.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. If you have comments or questions E-MAIL me!
